Black Lives Matter

by Chroma Supply on June 03, 2020

UPDATE: A total of $1,867 was raised!

As you may know, things are pretty tense in the United States right now, and rightfully so. The systematic oppression and murder of black people must end. Like many others, when seeing videos and reading articles, my heart breaks and I wonder "how can I help?"

To that end, 100% of the June profits from our shop will be donated to Catalyst Arts, a black founded and led Minneapolis Arts/Activist non-profit. They focus on providing a platform for artists whose voices have historically been underrepresented in the arts, including artists of color, LGBTQIA+ artists, immigrants, Indigenous and low-income people. Most recently, they have been responding to the tension in Minneapolis through organizing communal art/music projects, virtual support groups and town halls, child care support for volunteers on the front line as well as many other needs that pop up every day.

SOME BACKSTORY

I'd like to share a few reasons I've chosen this specific organization:

  1. I was born and raised in the Twin Cities, growing up in south Minneapolis just several miles from where George Floyd was murdered, so it felt natural to support an organization in that area.
  2. I strongly believe that art can be powerful, transformative, and a tool for positive change, so it made sense to donate to an organization that focuses on empowerment through art.
  3. I know how tough it is when you're a small business. Your margins are tight and it can be easy to get lost in the cracks. So while there are a lot of big non-profits doing amazing things right now, I wanted to focus on one that was smaller, more grassroots and may not get the publicity (or donations) that larger, national organizations do.
To be clear, purchasing something from our shop this month is just one way you can help. If you're looking for other ways to get involved, I've found this link to be a good starting point: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co
